DON'T BE AFRAID TO

The biggest question I get is what do I wear? It is a big decision and can feel overwhelming. Don’t let it stress you! I will help guide you if you need it! A big thing is to wear things that make you feel confident or things that you love. This is also the time where you can wear a suit or something more formal or a hoodie with some jeans. Don’t be afraid to mix it up, because variety in your photos helps. Below I have some of my best tips on what to wear and how to style your senior session outfits.

Outfit Tips

Here are a few basic guidelines of outfits for guys:

  1. Formal or Dressy - Guys don't always dress up a lot so its nice to have a couple of pictures that are more dressy or formal.  Suits are great, but it can be a button up shirt and some jeans, if that who you are.  Sweaters over a collared shirt can also be dressier.
  2. Casual - A nice solid color shirt with or without a color makes for great photos..  But if you are a t shirt and jeans kind of fellow, go for it!  These photos need to be you.  Flannel shirts open with a tee or other casual looks are fine.  Wear what makes you the most comfortable and showcases your casual style.
  3. Personality - This can be sports, or band or anything that showcases your unique personality.  Some like to wear a sport uniform, attire of your college of choice or just your special style

Quick Tip:

Make sure your clothes are as wrinkle-free as you can get them. Sometimes even sitting in the car before the session can wrinkle fabrics.

Things to Remember

Shoes

When prepping your outfits, think head to toe. While there is nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes for your whole session, only do so if they align with all your outfits. If you are mixing casual and formal styles, you will likely need different shoes to pair with each one. Make sure your shoes are clean. Also, keep your session location in mind when packing up your footwear.

Other Items

Keep your socks in mind when planning your outfits. Make sure your undershirt is not showing and is a color that compliments what you are wearing. Oh, and don't forget the BELT if you need one with your outfit. This is the MOST common accessory that guys forget.

WRINKLES!!

This one is so important. Make sure you steam your items and they are ready to go the day of your session. Wrinkles will not be fixed post processing so the items need to be wrinkle free for your session.

Grooming

I recommend scheduling your haircut a week or two before your session. That way you have a clean look needed for portraits.

Have a fresh shave! A five o'clock shadow cannot be fixed in post processing so make sure you are prepared.

Don't forget about your nails! During your session, your hands will be in the photos especially in close ups. Make sure your nails are clean and trimmed before your session.
